OECD_SEARCH

Find OECD datasets and their structure metadata.

Syntax

OECD_SEARCH("search words")
OECD_SEARCH("search words",limit)

Search words are literal text, not series identifiers or expressions. Quote phrases. Limit defaults to 25 and must be an integer literal from 1 through 200.

Examples

OECD_SEARCH("income inequality",25)
OECD_SEARCH("housing",50)
OECD_SEARCH("well being")

Matching and output

Returns a D3HtmlOperator table with dataset names, descriptions, exact flow codes and links to structure/codelists. Every whitespace-separated word must occur in the agency, dataset ID, name or description; matching ignores case. Names and descriptions use English when available. Results are sorted by name and flow. The displayed count is the number returned, not necessarily the total matches.

From dataset to series

Start with a keyword search to find datasets. Run the List available series command shown beside a dataset to list its actual series:

OECD_SEARCH("<agency>,<dataset>,<version>",100)
OECD_SEARCH("<agency>,<dataset>,<version> United States",100)

Replace the angle-bracket flow placeholders with a real flow from the search result. The optional words after the flow filter country/region, measure and other labels or codes. Copy a complete OECD command from the resulting series table. A dataset download builds the cached list from actual observed keys; it does not generate every possible codelist combination.

As an alternative, Open the structure link or OECD Data Explorer's Developer API panel to find the dataset's own dimension order and codes. Then call:

OECD("<agency>,<dataset>,<version>","<complete-single-series-dimension-key>")

This is a template. Replace placeholders with verified codes and select one explicit value for every dimension. A flow alone is insufficient to select a series.

Cache and availability

The server caches the catalogue for seven days. First retrieval can wait for an HTTP request. Existing cached results can be served when refresh fails, with a notice. With no usable catalogue, retrieval/rate-limit errors produce an explanatory HTML result instead of incorrectly reporting zero matching datasets. Dataset-specific and third-party reuse restrictions still apply.
