RainbowStats™

A practical guide for contributors

Become a RainbowStats blogger.

Bring a question. Explore the evidence with ChatGPT and RainbowStats. Turn the results into a readable article that others can reproduce.

Add the plug-in to ChatGPT

Open RainbowStats in ChatGPT, sign in, and install the plug-in using the add control. Complete any connection prompts. You can also open Plugins in ChatGPT and search for RainbowStats; some accounts label connections Apps.

Start a new conversation, type @RainbowStats, and select it from the menu. Then describe what you want to investigate.

Ask ChatGPT to read the command descriptions

The RainbowStats MCP already has the link to its command descriptions. Ask it to review the descriptions for the commands it plans to use before creating a script.

START WITH THE DOCUMENTATION
@RainbowStats Review your command descriptions before writing the script. Check the syntax, argument order, units, and output types for the commands you plan to use. Use documented commands. If a description is unavailable, tell me rather than inventing the syntax.

Develop the idea through conversation

Explain your question and, if you have one, your thesis. Give a time period, place, or comparison. Ask for a simple first chart, discuss the result, and refine the analysis. You can request plain-language explanations and short replies throughout.

EXPLAIN THE QUESTION
I want to investigate [question]. My thesis is [idea]. Keep each reply under 150 words unless I ask for more. Explain the thesis, suggest data and a first chart, and tell me what evidence would support or weaken it. Distinguish association from causation.

Finish the script, then create the link

When the analysis is ready, ask for one complete script containing explanatory text, graphs, and analysis. The MCP does not create the share link; you create it after running the script on the RainbowStats scripting platform.

MAKE THE ANALYSIS REPRODUCIBLE
Write the complete RainbowStats script with text, clearly labeled graphs, model results where appropriate, and a conclusion. Identify sources, dates, units, and limitations. Give me the complete script to run on the RainbowStats scripting platform. I will run it, create the link with Copy Link, and paste that link back here for you to review.

  1. Open the RainbowStats scripting platform, paste the script into Edit Script, and select Run Script.
  2. Inspect the text, graphs, and analysis. Return any errors or requested changes to the ChatGPT conversation and rerun the revised script.
  3. When the script is ready, select Copy Link on the scripting platform.
  4. Paste the copied link back into the same ChatGPT conversation so ChatGPT can review the results and use the link in your blog.

If you change the script later, run it again and use Copy Link to return the updated link to ChatGPT.

Ask for a concise blog with a useful appendix

After pasting your final RainbowStats link back into the same ChatGPT conversation, ask for a blog based on that analysis. Set a word limit for the main article and put supporting data, additional charts, methods, and references in an appendix.

DRAFT THE ARTICLE & PACKAGE THE FILES
Review the results at the RainbowStats link I pasted above, then write a blog for a general reader based on our completed analysis. Limit the main article to 800 words, excluding the appendix. Explain the question, thesis, evidence, conclusion, and material limitations. Include the key charts in the article.

Add an appendix with supporting data, additional charts, methods, the complete script, and linked references. Use the actual results and preserve uncertainty. Include the replication link.

Create a ready-to-upload ZIP containing index.html and every required chart and data asset, with working relative links. Prefer SVG charts where available. Use pale blue headings and readable text. Keep the upload under 10 MB. Return the ZIP for me to review.

Review the writing and open the HTML before uploading. Check that the main article meets your word limit, the charts load, and the references and replication link work. A single HTML file is also an option when it contains everything needed to display the article.

Upload your article for review

Return to the RainbowStats scripting platform in your desktop browser.

Open publisher access

Ctrl + Alt + P

Open the publishing controls and sign in with your registered blogger account.

Upload the article

Ctrl + Alt + U

Select the finished ZIP or HTML file and follow the upload prompts.

Keep the ZIP or HTML upload under 10 MB. Check for the “Private draft uploaded” confirmation. If an error appears, correct it and upload again.

We review the submission before publication.

RainbowStats reviews the article, supporting evidence, charts, references, and reproducible analysis. We may ask for revisions. If the submission is acceptable, we publish it on the RainbowStats blog.
